Over a busy weeknd I got to the opportunity to photograph for some very good friends - Sarah has always been Katie's 'sister' so as a result we've all grown to be really close friends - to be asked to capture an occassion as a gift for one of their parents was something I couldn't refuse.Read More
I just can't wait for next month's wedding of Nicky and Jack - managed to catch up last week to go through the final checks ahead of their big day. The venue is amazing, the plans are fantastic and the couple are just awesome.
After going through the events in details we managed to have a quick wander around Jephson Gardens in Leamington Spa, a beautiful park area which makes for a great backdrop for photographs! Sadly the Glass House was closed (despite the website telling me otherwise!), but we managed to still use one part of it to good effect.
So, the next time I see these guys will be on their wedding day and I can't wait to capture everything for them!
Whenever possible we try and get over the chase - Thomas absolutely loves it and has so much fun. He's almost stopped trying to put everything he sees in his mouth now, so walks are getting slightly more relaxing - I only say slightly, as instead of eating everything he likes to run round like a lunatic!
That said he is learning to play hide and seek - more seek than hide as hiding to a toddler is just covering your eyes; but I run off and hide and he loves trying to find me. Its the little things like this that are starting to collect as great memories...
We were very kindly invited as guests to the wedding of some friends of ours, Dan and Zoe. The got married in Deganwy, (North Wales) and the day couldn't have been more perfect for them. Most of the 'gang' were there and like us, those who have kids managed to escape for the weekend to help celebrate their big day.Read More
Consecutive weekends have seen us visit Trentham Gardens; we were so pleased with our first visit that we decided to come back again this weekend and upgrade our tickets to season passes. It's bcome Katie's new favourite place to be and its been wonderful for us all - its a beautiful place and somewhere that Thomas can run wild in without too many worries.
We are looking forward to making this a regular place to visit, and once Ferris is better, we are bringing him too!
We've had a brilliant and exhausting week off with Thomas which has been action-packed, today we decided to head to Ash End Farm. We've been there a few times before and its always been a great place; this time we met up with our friends Lydia and Ted and we all had a great time. Rather than go on, here's the best bits...Read More
Yep a whole year since Charlie was born so he celebrated in style - with more of a cake-pat than smash, but I think he enjoyed himself all the same!
I've know Nick a long time, we knew each other from kicking around in the village but became close friends when he landed a job at the local Burger King where I was already working at. Since then we've had many adventures, including quite a few memorable nights out!
Around the time Katie and I got together, Nick met Gemma, so we've had a lot in common the past few years with our new little families too; Charlie is a really happy little chappie and is brave and comfortable with everyone (as far as I can tell), when Gemma suggested we try a cake smash there wasn't any real doubt that he'd love it.
We managed to get together just after his first birthday and after a chat and a drink we got the cake out and started snapping away - although he was a little unsure to begin with, Charlie soon got involved, even if a spoon was needed to explore the middle of the cake! He seemed to have fun and I think the photos have captured it pretty well - Happy Birthday Charlie!
I feel so lucky that I get the opportunity to shoot with so many amazing people, families especially, and I think watching their interactions and feeling how close they are as a unit is pretty inspiring. Becci's family were fantastic to meet and spend time with...Read More
I last shot with Elle for a gory halloween session in 2015 and, although it was fantastic, I really wanted to work with her again with a much more natural look. Even with the best intentions, this year has been a nightmare in terms of actually getting to the studio and shooting; with the first time in 2017 being mid-March, its safe to say I've been taking it slowly!
Elle and I got talking a few weeks ago and agreed to give it a go - I was getting rusty from the lack of camera use; shooting my son at home can only give me so much practice. I'd seen the work she'd done with Matt Leach a few years ago and I really loved it, the natural look which was just focusing on Elle and not some creative/flashy makeup. Its something I'm being drawn more towards, I love the mood and relaxed nature of these sessions, everyone is casual and comfortable and things just seem to go much more smoothly. Aside from the images in my head I'm not 'trying' to get a particular shot we are going from click to click and finding what works.
It helps that Elle has the experience and ability to move from each pose so effortlessly, she really makes it easy to build on each shot and feel like you are creating some really great shots. The last 18 months or so I have found myself falling back on a lighting technique that gives me a shot with a low depth of field, even though this is nice, I'd find myself more and more frustrated that I was coming back from shoots with very little in terms of usable images - not because the models weren't working well, but for the fact I'd take a handful of shots and only really look at a couple for editing.
This time I started to evolve my style, taking shots which are mainly around the aperture of f8 or f9 and ensuring that the shots are more flexible from the editing point of view. I was more than happy with the result, which all revolved around 4 main setups - a couple worked well the others not so well, but each setup gave me something to be pleased with.
The weather is improving and its starting to feel like spring is almost here; getting out this morning was brilliant. Thomas seems to love Cannock Chase almost as much as I do, and the boy in him is really starting to come out now, he's a real explorer who can't want to get off the track and into the woods and mud.
We took a walk around Marquis Drive, a safe place to leave the car and let him toddle around without too much danger - he's safe from cars but not from puddles and stones, the latter he seems to think are teething aids!!
Letting him wander about is really fantastic, seeing him explore and discover things himself is so much fun, even if we have to step in occassionally to stop him digesting some bits of dead trees!
