So, its been a while since I shot in studio - since the birth of Thomas I've been pretty busy! But I am keen to continue with studio shoots whilst I can. Having almost got together with Kira for a second shoot on 13th August, (we ended up cancelling as Katie went into labour, a decent excuse), we decided that we'd carry on and do the shoot we planned once things were back to 'normal'.
Sammy had suggested we do something I have wanted to do for a long time; shoot some fun, silly and crazy shots. I'd seen the collections of wacky poses featuring random celebrities that are all over the internet and its something I know a lot of photographers do; getting some emotion and personality out of a model is harder than you think sometimes. Often the best models know exactly what look works for them and they can often be the hardest to catch more naturally. I wanted to break down the barrier that you can have, luckily Kira was more than up for the challenge.
When we last shot together we got on well, spending most of the session laughing (mostly at me!), so I was sure that Kira would be brave and show her true self in front of the lens. We looked through some of the shots we had found and Kira jumped straight into action after a little makeup and hair work from the ever awesome, Sammy Carpenter.
The first set was brilliant, just a simple jumper meant that the focus was clearly on Kira and her expressions; she lept into action and had me in stitches in seconds pulling the funniest faces and really entertaining the camera. Of course we got some great shots and I have some I really am looking forward to working on individually, but from a first 25 minutes to get what we did was amazing.
In the second set we started with Kira just wearing her black top, but I felt we needed to up the ante and so I grabbed an American flag from the studio and asked her to go crazy - which was absolutely not a problem for her!! Another fun set and onto a third; this time trying some with her hair tied up and really strutting those moves...
All in all we had brilliant fun and I was delighted with the way things turned out; as I said, I will be working on some of the shots we got that I haven't included in the contact sheets as there are some wonderful ones to show off, but for now I will leave these here!
