Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful little lady in what was my first 'official' newborn shoot. I've been fortunate enough to have shot some great weddings and always take my camera for family parties and when out with friends, but there was something so magical about capturing the images for a brand new mum and dad.
I was a little nervous, to me in a way it was like a wedding , I gave it the same respect as I would have done with a marriage; moments in a wedding can really only be captured once and then its gone, so getting images of a newborn at that point in time was really special too.
Orlah-Sofia was born on 17th August, only a few days after we became parents, so we totally understood how exciting this time was to Kloe and Loz - once they were settled at home we discussed the likely date for me to pop over and meet them.
The day was fantastic, we'd spoken a few times leading up to the session about the expectations both they and I had for the shoot and I was very keen to try and keep it light and easy on Orlah, the last thing I wanted to do was to setup an extravagant scenario which would upset the little miss! As with shots I take for weddings I was keen to capture things as naturally as possible, so more the time that they were sharing as a family rather than sticking Orlah in a bucket on a pretty blanket; something I was happy to try another time, but having researched and then combined with my style, things worked out much better this way in my view.
Seeing Kloe and Loz with Orlah was beautiful; such a loving and close knit little family who were showing so much patience with what I was asking of them and their newborn, a few clothing changes were a little unsettling, but they all dealt with it with a relaxed and open attitude and made my job so easy in the end. There's no doubt that Orlah is going to grow into a wonderful little girl, the love and calm that they have created in their home is really inspirational.
So, here's some of the best bits!
