After shooting with makeup artist (and all round superstar) Sammy Carpenter on the last couple of shoots, we discussed doing something along the lines of an evil queen, I'd been driving the last 2 shoots in terms of look and feel but this time Sammy wanted to try taking control of the idea.
She immediately stated that she knew the exact model she wanted for the shoot and so we managed to persuade Kira to get involved. Kira has modelled a little before and Sammy had worked with her previously, on hearing the idea for the shoot she began to get quiet excited about the possibilities and began getting involved too. Before I knew it we were shooting with plenty of props and a brilliant dress!
Before Italk about the shoot I thought I'd mention the 'unique' lighting setup I started with; a quick test with Matt and I thought I had the lighting right, when Kira stepped in it wasn't right at all - so I changed the strip to an octobox, flagged the sides then added a rim light and another flag, we all stood back and laughed at the most ridiculous lighting setup we'd ever seen; proof that we are all learning!!
Working with Kira was fantastic, not only was she brilliant in front of the camera, but inbetween shots we all had so much fun, talking and joking and I haven't laughted so much on a shoot in a very long time - before the end of the session we'd already made plans to shoot again and I can't wait for that.
In the meantime I took the shots we had and have played around with them, giving them a variety of finishes, from a more frozen, icy feel to the more traditional evil queen with a red apple and even a classic looking black and white shot. I'm really pleased with the shots and I hope the girls are too!
